AS SOON as it arrived on our screens, Lost was one of those shows that people couldn’t stop talking about. And now it’s going to start all over again, because you can watch every episode of this compelling drama On Demand.
It wasn’t just the big budget opening episode that got people excited, or the attempts to unravel the mystery at the heart of the island. Lost was also a show with strong characters, so everyone who loyally watched each week often had a favourite, whether it was bad-boy Sawyer or Vincent the dog.
Whether you’re watching from the start, or getting into Lost again, here are five of our favourite (spoiler-free) Lost moments to get you in the mood for this landmark TV show.
The plane crash – Lost is about what happens to the 48 survivors of a plane crash now stranded on a Pacific island. As it begins, you might think it’s a straightforward survival story – and the plane crash itself is an explosive start to the series. But then the island appears to be more threatening than anyone could have realised.
Sawyer’s backstory – Easily one of the most popular characters in the show, the blond-haired bad boy was up to no good soon after he arrived on the mysterious island.
In episode eight, Sawyer is creating division: he fights with Jack and sneaks a kiss off Kate. But his backstory actually makes him much more human, and you soon find yourself rooting for him.
The other survivors – In Series 2, Lost shakes things up with episode seven, which suddenly introduces a whole new cast. These are the characters who were in the tail section of the plane, but who have not featured in the story so far. It’s that bold approach to TV-making that has kept Lost on top.

Flashforward – Lost was never afraid to employ the flashback to flesh out its characters’ stories, and there’s nothing new in that. But with Series 5, Lost proved it could still surprise viewers by starting with a flashforward. Suddenly, everything had changed – or had it? There were still two more gripping series to answer that question.
Kate’s backstory – Episode nine of Series 2 is called What Kate Did, and it reveals what happened to Kate Austen before she got on the plane. It’s not giving away too much to say that she’s got a very dark secret.
And we haven’t even touched on the Dharma Initiative, the menacing black smoke or the polar bear.
Lost Series 1-6 is available On Demand from 1 December
