England have begun their home Test series with the West Indies looking to improve on their disappointing performances in the Caribbean earlier this year. England had about as much joy as they used to against the great West Indians teams of years gone by.
And you can watch the West Indies at their devastating best against England during the 1970s and 80s with Vision Sport’s collection of classic cricket films.
Back then the Windies crushed all who were unlucky enough to stray into their path. Facing the likes of Malcolm Marshall, Michael Holding and Joel Garner was more frightening than bumping into a group of grouse shooters wearing your “come as your favourite game bird” fancy-dress outfit.
The English bowlers didn’t have it easy either. If Gordon Greenidge didn’t dismantle you, there was always Viv Richards and Clive Lloyd, not to mention Gary Sobers. Suffice to say, despite a few moments of resistance from the likes of Dennis Amiss and Ian Botham, England didn’t win that many sessions. Still, it’s never been more exhilarating watching them lose.
