With the FA Cup taking place this weekend, whet your appetite for the greatest cup competition with eight more epic Wembley showdowns on BT Vision.
Man Utd have appeared in 18 FA Cup finals – more than any other team. Eric Cantona had much to do with their success in the 1990s, scoring crucial goals in their demolition of Glenn Hoddle’s Chelsea in 1994 and in 1996 against bitter rivals Liverpool. The flamboyant Frenchman was suspended for the 1995 showpiece, and his side paid the price as Paul Rideout scored the winner for Everton.
Tottenham are another club who’ve enjoyed considerable cup success over the years. But in 1991, their star players Paul Gascoigne and Gary Lineker had finals to forget. Gazza injured himself in the opening minutes, while Lineker had a goal disallowed and a penalty saved. Spurs still managed to win, though, thanks to an own goal from Nottingham Forest defender Des Walker.
QPR, Brighton and Crystal Palace are some of the less familiar names to have reached the FA Cup final in the last few decades. The Hoops nearly caused a major upset in 1982, forcing Tottenham to a replay, while both Brighton and Crystal Palace succumbed to replay defeats against Man Utd.
