Top Of The Pops Years

New to Vision MUSIC this month, The Top Of The Pops Years is, in essence, the world’s greatest video jukebox.
We’ve collected some of the best songs and videos from the past 25 years and brought them all to your TV. Simply highlight the year of choice - from 1983 to 2007 - and relive a little of your lost youth and, perhaps, some of your very worst fashion disasters.
1983 is as good a place to start as any, a year where pop music became as cheesy as camembert.
How else to explain the guilty pleasures of Billy Joel’s Uptown Girl and Spandau Ballet’s True, to say nothing of Wham! - who really earned their exclamation mark on Bad Boys.
Fast forward to 1987, the year in which U2 became the world’s biggest band.
With Or Without You topped the charts, as did its accompanying album, The Joshua Tree, about which Rolling Stone magazine said: “This has been U2’s most popular album since about 10 minutes after its release… they have never made more universally loved music than this.”
1995 is a must for Britpop diehards, with Oasis’s Wonderwall, Supergrass’s Alright and Pulp’s Common People.
But where The Top Of The Pops Years really excels itself is in its well of forgotten treasures.
1987’s Pump up the Volume by M.A.R.R.S, 1996’s You’re Gorgeous by Babybird… even 2003’s impossibly shrill All The Things She Said by Russian girl duo TATU, who weren’t quite everything they seemed.
Music to get lost in, then. Tune in for five minutes, hang around for five hours, enjoy.
