Raised by a single mother in the tough neighbourhood of Hell’s Kitchen, New York, young Alicia soon dragged herself out of poverty by a combination of luck and hard work, learning classical piano and writing her own songs when barely a teenager.

Her soulful debut album Songs In A Minor launched her to international stardom at the age of 20, thanks in no small part to her now-classic single Fallin’. Since then the hits have kept coming – including X Factor auditionee favourite, If I Ain’t Got You, her smoochy R&B duet with Usher, My Boo, the reggae-tinged No One and Whitney Houston‘s smash comeback Million Dollar Bill, written by Alicia exclusively for the diva.

Now riding high in the UK charts with her number one album The Element Of Freedom and her great solo take on Empire State Of Mind, Miss Keys is definitely at the top of her game.
