Alexandra Burke talks exclusively to BT Vision

The X Factor winner Alexandra Burke talks to BT Vision about her fantastic debut album, Cheryl, JLS and bad boys!

Bad Boys is a great sassy pop tune – is it a good indication of the direction you’ve taken with your debut album Overcome?
Yes, I think it’s a good indication because I only have three ballads on the album and it’s quite in your face, it’s quite beastly, quite bold, it’s that side that I want to be portrayed.

What was the inspiration for the video?

What really inspired the concept was the movie Kill Bill – the outfit I’m wearing – and Michael Jackson’s Beat It video, so we tried to fuse them together.

Do you have a weakness for bad boys?
I do have a weakness for bad boys, but I think every girl does!

How was it working with Flo Rida?

Oh Flo is an absolute gent. To be honest with you, I was pretty scared to meet him the first time because I thought he would be a bit of a gangster. But he’s not, he’s actually a sweetheart and I feel very privileged to work with him.

How do you feel about the single going up against your X Factor mentor Cheryl Cole and your X Factor rivals JLS?
It’s weird because obviously we’re all friends, I think JLS are a month after me so it’s not too bad but Cheryl’s like a week in between. This time last year I wouldn’t even have been mentioned in the same breath as Cheryl and the fact that my single’s coming out the same week as her new release feels amazing.

Does Cheryl still offer you advice?
Yes, she still offers me a lot of advice and she’s still my dear friend, I’m very grateful that she’s around.

What do you think about JLS winning a MOBO award?
I was so rooting for them! They’ve already released their first single and they’ve got the second one coming out soon so for me it was definitely well earned. They work really hard and it just shows that you don’t have to win The X Factor to gain success. Wherever you come in the competition you can be successful if you continue to work hard. So big love to JLS.

Do you have a favourite so far on The X Factor?

I’m rooting for the over 25s because I think they’re quite a strong category, but I’m good friends with Rachel. I’ve known her since last year so I’m really hoping that she does well. But I’m thinking that the over 25s might win because their category seems to stand out.

How involved is Simon Cowell in your career?
Simon Cowell is very much hands-on with my career, like deciding what the single would be. It’s great that he is because I really appreciate what he’s done for me and he’s taking the time out to make sure that this album is really good.

What do you love to watch on TV?

I love EastEnders and of course The X Factor.

What’s your favourite chick flick series – Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty or Sex And The City?

Sex And The City. I’d never actually watched it before the movie came out and that quite shocked me because the show’s amazing.

It’s a choice between watching Johnny Depp in Public Enemies, Hugh Jackman in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, or Russell Crowe in State Of Play – who does it for you?
Johnny Depp does it for me – I think he does it for every girl. He’s the one.
