Pre-schoolers: prepare for an extravaganza of music and adventure as Nick Jr’s celebrated animated series Wonder Pets arrives on Vision KIDS.

As the school day ends, superhero trio Linny the Guinea Pig, Ming-Ming Duckling and Turtle Tuck get ready for their next rescue.

Travelling across the world – and into space – the brave threesome use teamwork rather than superpowers to get the job done. No baby animal is beyond the reach of Wonder Pets.

Boasting loveable characters, unique photo-puppetry and fabulously endearing musical scores, the latest creation from former Sesame Street writer Josh Selig stands apart from other pre-school fare.

Each episode is an operetta, with children voicing the three heroes and a live score from a full orchestra.

Grammy-winning composer Jeffrey Lesser has already bagged the show an Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composing.

“Wonder Pets’ music does not feature the tinny, saccharine melodies that often infect children’s television shows,” said Edward Wyatt of the New York Times.

“What distinguishes Wonder Pets from other programmes of this sort,” concurred Peter Paphides of The Times, “is that every episode takes the form of both well-known and original operettas.”

And if the music doesn’t win you over, who could resist the daring-do of five-year-old Linny or big-hearted three-year-old Tuck?

Not forgetting, of course, three-year-old Ming-Ming. This small duckling has big ambitions… if only she could pronounce her ‘r’s.

Parents will enjoy Wonder Pets as much as their children. As the New York Times’ Edward Wyatt said, “Episodes contain just enough comic throwaway lines that will sail over the heads of pre-schoolers.”
