What to watch and record on Freeview this weekend

American Idol on Freeview TVWith your V-box’s Freeview powers, you can watch, record and live-rewind a whole weekend of great TV.

If you’re still experiencing X Factor withdrawal symptoms, turn to ITV2 and the new series of American Idol (times vary).

Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson return as judges, and are joined by US singer/songwriter Kara DioGuardi — best known for co-writing Kylie’s chart monster Spinning Around.

The new series of Shipwrecked (Sun, 12.30pm) washes onto C4’s shores, with 10 impossibly pretty castaways essentially just sunning themselves on a South Pacific island.

18-year-old Mark describes himself as “a mouth on a stick”, voiceover artist Rosie is unsurprisingly a talkative girl, student Hollie can witter away in five languages… so expect some riveting conversations.

There’s new sitcom in BBC1’s The Old Guys (Sat, 9.30pm), starring Roger “Trigger” Lloyd-Pack and Keeping Up Apperances’ Clive Swift as a pair of aged men lusting after neighbour Jane Asher.

It comes with quite a pedigree: it’s written by Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong, the co-creators of Peep Show, and Simon Blackwell, who contributed to acclaimed political comedy The Thick Of It.

Or turn to BBC3 for slightly less conventional comedy in Being Human (Sat, 9pm). It follows a ghost, a werewolf and a vampire’s attempts to live a quiet life in Bristol.
