The Spiderwick Chronicles: the beginner’s guide

Everything you need to prepare for this fantasy family treat, available to watch from today on Vision FILM.
A film with ‘Chronicles’ in the title. Sounds like a fantasy movie to me…
You got it! The Spiderwick Chronicles is based on five books by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black and is full of goblins, hobgoblins and trolls. Oooh and fairies too.
And it’s set in the magical faraway kingdom of…?
… New England, USA, actually. Odd things happen when Helen Grace and her three children move into a creaky old mansion bequeathed to them by their great-great-uncle, Arthur Spiderwick.
Spooks! The house is haunted?
Worse – it’s inhabited. Turns out old Arthur Spiderwick wrote a book that’s the key to unlocking another dimension. Unless the Grace children can defend the house from goblin attack, the world will be overrun.
That sounds kind of terrifying for a kids’ movie.
Spiderwick does have a little more action than, say, the Harry Potter movies, so you might end up checking under beds for boogiemen to reassure your younger ones. Older siblings will love it though!
Sounds great. When’s Spiderwick 2 due out?
It isn’t. Thanks to tight plotting, they wrap up all five books in one single, dazzling film.
