The Mist: the Stephen King horror story turned terrifying movie

The Mist on Vision FILM on demandThe Mist is one of the most downbeat, serious-minded dramas ever to feature gigantic tentacled aliens from another dimension,” was the Independent On Sunday’s take on the latest offering from The Shawshank Redemption director Frank Darabont.

There’s much more horror on BT Vision >

“Adapted from a novella by Stephen King, it’s set almost entirely in a rural New England supermarket…it’s nice to see a monster movie that’s got some meat as well.”

When a thick fog descends upon a rural community and claims the lives of anyone foolish enough to be caught outside, a small band of survivors seek refuge in a local grocery store.

But now they are trapped, and soon have to fend off an advancing horde of murderous monsters.

“As with all the best siege movies, The Mist takes its time setting up its characters and scenario,” wrote Empire magazine.

“In fact, it’s nearly half an hour before any beastie lifts a toothy tentacle in anger.”

Featuring an ensemble of terrific, if little-known, character actors (Thomas Jane, David Drayton, Marcia Gay Harden), this is an old-fashioned chiller in the very best sense.

It builds layers of tension until the whole thing becomes positively claustrophobic.

“The look and style of the picture is that of a B-movie but it’s drum tight in execution, with a bold use of its single location,” said the Guardian.

Empire concluded that, “this is one of the best horror movies of the last few years.”
