OSCARS SEASON is upon us, with the 84th Academy Awards just around the corner, on Sunday 26 February.

To get in the mood, Vision Box Office has a selection of great films that have all taken home a famous golden statuette. Even better, they’re just £1 each to rent. These are just a few of the titles available:

Walk The Line
Nominated for a host of Oscars in 2006, leading lady Reese Witherspoon walked away with the Best Actress award for her emotional role as June Carter. Wife of country music legend Johnny Cash, June was also a talented singer herself, and Reese provides impressive vocals to add to her list of accomplishments.

An Inconvenient Truth
The documentary scooped two Oscars in 2007 – one for Best Documentary, the other for Original Song. Al Gore’s work was a campaign against global warming; one of the first to be so hard-hitting and thought-provoking that it succeeded in its aim of reaching a mass international audience.

Dreamgirls
American Idol finalist Jennifer Hudson shined among a high-profile cast including Beyoncé and Jamie Foxx, to win the Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 2007. Her vocal abilities didn’t go to waste as she played one of a group of black soul singers in the early 60s, said to be modelled on The Supremes.

Braveheart
It was only Mel Gibson’s second directorial outing (and he was the lead actor), but this tale of 13th-century Scotland’s fight for independence was a winner in every sense. It walked away from the 1996 ceremony with a whopping five awards, including the most coveted Best Director and Best Picture.

Gladiator
If you’ve never seen this movie, now is the perfect time. It scooped five Oscars in 2001, including Best Picture, and Best Actor for Russell Crowe, who played the enslaved Roman general avenging the murder of his wife and daughter.
